Anthurium ‘Mr. Worldwide’ (NSE Port × Indo Port) × Antolakii (BVEP)
An exceptionally collectible Anthurium combining ‘Mr. Worldwide’, the sought-after Portillae hybrid created by Teo Le, with Anthurium antolakii, the rare velvet species long known to collectors as Black Velvet Eastern Panama (BVEP).
‘Mr. Worldwide’ combines NSE Portillae from Enid at No Soy Elmo with an Indonesian NOID Portillae. The line is known for dramatic Portillae characteristics including wide sinuses, substantial leathery foliage and striking emergent color.
Anthurium antolakii is the formally recognized species name for the Eastern Panama velvet Anthurium historically circulated in the hobby as BVEP. Native to eastern Panama, it is known for exceptionally dark velvet foliage and dramatic red-to-nearly-black emergents. The species was named in honor of renowned collector and plantsman Rory Antolak.
This exact plant is a top cutting from one of our mother plants, originally acquired from Seth Schweers of 35 & Thrive. It is already in cataphyll, making this a mature division rather than a juvenile seedling and putting it at an exciting stage for its next growth.
